Wind Noise -
March, 2005 |
There have been
quite a few posts in the
automotive forums recently talking about "wind noise" at different
speeds depending on if there was a crosswind or not. I have not
noticed this problem on my van, but I decided to post a few pictures to
point out exactly what could be done to fix this problem. Since I
don't notice any wind noise (I probably have the radio up too loud), I will
just leave it the way it is for now.
The "fix" as I understand it is to push the door seal under the
windshield seal for the full length of the seam. This means from
the point where they meet (see bottom picture) to the top of the windshield
(see middle picture).
Click on the top picture to see a larger view and you may notice about 1/2
inch of "clean" where I pushed the door seal under the windshield seal.
I used a small wooden "popsicle stick" (don't use anything that will cut the
rubber).
These pictures show
the driver's side door
seal where it meets windshield seal at a few places on the van. This
procedure should be done on each side. |

Seals at the
midpoint along the door.
This picture shows the seals together at the midpoint between the bottom
of the windshield and the top of the windshield. It shows that the
door seal is on top of the windshield seal near the bottom and it is below
the windshield seal as it gets nearer to the top (on the right of the
picture).
Pay no attention to the dirt :) |

Seals at the top
of the windshield.
This picture shows the seals together at the top of the windshield. It
looks a bit bent, but I don't want to mess with it.
There's more dirt - looks like I need to clean this thing! |

Seals at the
bottom of the windshield.
This picture shows the seals coming together at the bottom of the
windshield, if you look closely (you can see it just above the top of the
fender. |
